The mission of the Office of Financial Aid is to increase opportunities for student access to and success in higher education by helping students and their families seek, obtain, and make the best use of all financial resources.

We Can Help Find the Right Financial Aid Package for You

Paying for college and finding the right financial aid can be an overwhelming process. The financial aid section of our site is designed to provide all the information that you will need to apply for financial aid and develop an award package tailored to meet your college expenses.

We participate in federal and state aid programs that help make education affordable for all students. We also provide debt-management counseling and College Work-Study placement services.

Please contact us with any questions or concerns. We are here to assist each of our students. We look forward to helping you.

Emergency Fund

The Nader-Wolverton Student Emergency Fund assists students nearing graduation, who, for unforeseen circumstances, are unable to continue their studies due to financial hardship. Hardships may include but are not limited to, tuition assistance, food insecurity, transportation solutions, child care and emergency housing. Contact Kimberly Hayman for more information and application.

To be eligible to apply, you must be a matriculated current student who has experienced an unanticipated emergency resulting in a short term financial hardship. Applicants must be in good academic standing at the time of submission and have applied for all eligible financial aid, i.e. FAFSA, TAP, Dream, Excelsior and Part-Time Aid (excluding international students). Money received will be used to offset college related expenses and is directly deposited to student accounts or in the form of a meal plan or in some circumstances, reimbursement.

If you are enrolled in at least 6 summer credits wish to apply for Student Loans or College Work Study for Summer, please review the SUMMER FINANCIAL AID PROCESS and submit Summer Financial Aid Application.

General Terms and Conditions of Financial Aid

The following are terms and conditions under which financial awards are made to students.  A more complete explanation for individual programs is available in the Farmingdale State College Catalog or from the Financial Aid Office.  Please remember that student aid programs are frequently modified by legislation.

Awards may be made prior to verification of data on your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  You will be notified if you are required to submit additional documentation for verification.  Failure to submit all requested documentation, within 120 days, may result in a forfeiture of your eligibility.  If necessary, we will correct FAFSA data on your behalf.  We will notify you of any changes to your financial aid award as they occur.

If you borrow under the federal Direct Loan Program during your attendance at the Farmingdale, you must complete a federal Direct Loan Exit Counseling Interview prior to leaving the College.

  • You must be matriculated (accepted into a degree program).
  • You must continue to attend classes regularly.
  • Only degree applicable coursework can be considered for financial aid enrollment purposes. In other words your financial aid eligibility is based upon credits required for your degree (some exceptions for remedial coursework). Once you meet degree requirements you are no longer eligible for aid.
  • Students must maintain satisfactory academic progress.
  • You must report additional awards or scholarships not appearing on your award letter to the Financial Aid Office.  Upon receipt of this information, the College may be required to adjust the awards appearing on your award notice.
  • You must promptly inform the Registrar's Office if you intend to withdraw from classes.
  • Financial Aid is awarded on an annual basis.  Students must reapply each year and eligibility may vary from year to year based on family information and/or changes in legislation.

NOTE: Financial Aid Awards are contingent upon the College receiving adequate federal and state funds to support these programs.  In the event of changes, you will be notified.  State and Federal budget discussions may lead to changes in funding levels, cost increases, or regulatory changes.

Eligibility

Students must be matriculated in a degree or certificate program to receive federal or state financial aid, including loans.  Non-matriculated students are ineligible to receive federal or state financial aid. PLEASE NOTE: If you have graduated from Farmingdale and are planning to continue on for another degree or certificate, you must go through the Admissions Office to apply for acceptance into the new program or you will be considered a non-matriculated student and be ineligible for financial aid.

Students must be enrolled in at least 6 eligible credits per term (Fall, Intersession and Spring combined, or Summer terms combined) to receive most federal financial aid, except Pell Grant.  Only courses that apply toward the student's current program can be considered in determining the number of eligible credits for financial aid.

Cost of Attendance

Your Cost of Attendance is an estimate of the cost of attending Farmingdale State College.  We estimate your expenses including transportation, books and supplies, off-campus living expenses and personal expenses.  These costs, called indirect costs, are added to your tuition, fees and housing charges, called direct costs, to make up your total Cost of Attendance.  You are only billed for the direct costs.  Your financial need is a simple calculation of the Cost of Attendance based on your Student Aid Index (SAI) from your FAFSA.  The following are examples of the 2024-2025 Cost of Attendance budgets for full-time Undergraduate students:

NY State Resident living with parent(s) NY State Resident living on-campus NY State independent student living off campus
Tuition and Fees $   8626 $    8626 $   8626
Books and Supplies      1300       1300      1300
Food and Housing allowance      2536     15716*     28474
Transportation      1850        700      1850
Personal Expenses      1300      1300      1300
TOTAL $ 15,612 $ 27,642 $ 41,550

* On -campus food and housing allowance based on the higher of the mean or median housing charges and a calculated meal allowance for 3 meals a day 7 days a week.  Your actual charges may be different.

Students are initially packaged based on the Housing plans indicated on the Admissions application and as full-time students according to our packaging formulae.  Once the drop-add period is over, the "Never Attended" process is complete and Campus Housing has finalized the room assignments each term, your Cost of Attendance and financial aid will be recalculated and may be revised.

All students are packaged with estimated Pell Grants, TAP and SUNY Tuition Credit, if eligible.  Campus-based funds, such as Federal College Work-Study and Supplemental Opportunity Grant (SEOG) are awarded based on availability of funds and, in the case of SEOG, to the students with the highest need as determined by the Student Aid Index (SAI).  If there is any portion of the student's Cost of Attendance budget that is unmet, students will also be offered student loans.

If your federal financial aid is being disbursed after the term has ended (Retroactive Disbursement), it will be based on the number of credits you COMPLETED in that term, not the number of credits in which you were enrolled.

  6. What criteria it uses to select financial aid recipients.

It is your responsibility to:

  1. Review and consider all information about a school’s program before you enroll.
  2. Pay special attention to your application for student financial aid, complete it accurately, and submit it on time to the right place. Errors can delay or prevent your receiving aid.

Important Dates and Deadlines

  • October 1st - FAFSA on the Web becomes available.
  • March 1st - Farmingdale State College preferred deadline for FAFSA submission.
  • July 15th - Recommended date to have all documents in to ensure your financial aid is applied to your bill before the bill due date.
  • June 30th - Last Date to file for TAP (6/30/2025 for 2024-25 and 6/30/2026 for 2025-26)

Verification Deadlines:

To receive any federal financial aid, all requested verification documents must be received within 120 days of the student's last date of attendance or from the last date of the academic year or the federal deadline, (September 17, 2025 for 2024-25 or September 16, 2026 for 2025-26), whichever comes first.  Please note that we must also have received a valid FAFSA result before the end of the term.  If the student does not complete the verification process, no federal aid will be awarded.

However, if the student was awarded a Direct Loan, in addition to meeting the verification deadlines, the loan must be accepted by the student AND approved by the federal government before the student's last date of attendance to receive loan funds.  It is recommended you have all required documents in and accept your loans by December 1st for Fall or May 1st for Spring to ensure you will meet the required deadlines.
