Make a Public Art Donation
Proposal of Gift by Donor
To begin the process of donating art to Farmingdale State, the donor must:
- include a letter stating the intention to donate the art, including visual documentation of the object(s) through photographs or electronic means;
- provide evidence of ownership of the object(s) proposed for donation;
- include proof of provenance of the object(s), if known;
- include a certified appraisal by a recognized art appraiser.
Review of Proposed Gift
The Public Art Committee will review works for acceptance into the collection according to the following criteria:
- whether the work of art enhances strengths within the collection or is related to the long-range direction of the collection as a whole;
- whether the work is of value for scholarly research, is of historic or aesthetic value, or is related to the history of the College, schools, or departments;
- whether the College has existing storage and preventive conservation environments to accommodate the proposed gift properly and whether the condition of the work requires extensive restoration.
The Public Art Committee will decide whether or not the College should accept a proposed gift. All proposed acquisition valued at $25,000 or more will be submitted for approval to the College President.
Acceptance of Gifts of Art
The Public Art Committee will notify the donor of its decision to accept the donation or not. If the art is accepted, the Committee and Farmingdale Foundation will prepare a gift acknowledgement letter. The IRS requires the donor acquires a qualified independent appraisal for any gifts valued over $5,000 and file IRS Form 8283.
Farmingdale State College is given full and absolute title to any art accepted for inclusion in our collection.
