The Dental Hygiene department recognizes the important relationship between oral health and overall wellness. A bright healthy smile depends on good oral hygiene. Dental hygiene is the study of preventative oral healthcare and we educate our students on how to keep the mouth, teeth and gums clean and healthy to prevent disease.
Our program ranks #7 out of the top 50 dental hygiene programs, according to The Best Colleges 2019.
The Dental Hygiene Care Center consists of 35 dental units and a seven-room radiology suite. The primary purpose of this state-of-the-art facility is to educate our future hygienists as well as to provide services to the public. All treatment provided in our facility is supervised by registered dental hygienists and dentists employed by the State University of New York.
Outside the Classroom
There are several opportunities outside the classroom specifically designed to enhance our students' learning experience. All students in the program are members of the Student American Dental Hygienists' Association. The students hold monthly meetings with invited speakers, conduct various fund-raising activities, and participate in campus and community events.
Giving Back to the Community
The Department of Dental Hygiene hosts "Give Kids a Smile" an annual event that provides children ages 1 – 17 and their parents free oral screenings, dental cleanings, fluoride treatments, sealants, and oral health education.
Continuing Education
The Dental Hygiene department provides continuing education opportunities to current
NYS Registered Dental Hygienists.
The Dental Hygiene department offers a 45-hour combined lecture and clinical certification
program which meets the regulations of the New York State Board for Dentistry that
allows Registered Dental Hygienists in New York State to administer local infiltration
