CARES Criteria
Procedure
Nominations are made by completing a nomination form, which describes how the nominee has met one or more of the items of criteria. The nomination may be made by any student, employee or the employee can self-nominate. If additional information is required, sheets can be attached. The completed nomination form is submitted to the "CARES" Selection Committee.
The Presidential CARES Award (Commendation and Recognition for Exceptional Service) is given annually to:
- one faculty member
- one professional staff member
- one classified staff member
This award recognizes efforts and achievements that demonstrate an exemplary commitment to the college community, service beyond what is considered a normal part of one's job description, and an attitude of caring and selflessness.
Faculty Criteria
Examples can be given in any or all of the following
- Scholarship: Any degrees, licenses, honors or awards that the nominee has received including details as to how this enhances the nominee's ability to impact the Farmingdale community. Also include details of any research that has been completed or publications that have been announced as well as any professional recognition.
- Service: Participation in campus programs, community programs or student programs that you feel contributes to the Farmingdale State community. If the nominee has helped another employee or student in a way that you feel makes his or her experience here more meaningful, please share that as well.
- Grant Funding and/or Fundraising: Any grants that the nominee has applied for or has been awarded that could lead to additional resources for the campus community. Please give us the details of any activities the nominee has participated in that have resulted in raising funds or donations for the Farmingdale State campus.
Professional Staff Criteria

Classified Staff Criteria
This award is presented to any classified staff member who provides co-workers, students and/or the public with quality service and assistance. Such employees are consistently responsive to questions, return phone calls, make special efforts to fill requests, and are helpful and courteous. This award recognizes Classified Staff employees who unfailingly provide outstanding assistance and cooperation.
