STEP Academies

STEP students can participate in experiential, learning-based academies. Academies take place during the fall, spring, and summer times. Please refer to the information below, and feel free to contact the Director for more information.

 

 

Fall 2024 Academies

We are excited to be back for the Fall! Here are the details, from dates and bus info to class offerings and registration.

 

Academy Dates

Academies will take place on:

Bus Information

Bus pickups will be between 8:30am and 8:45am, depending on routes. Buses leave Farmingdale State College at 2:00pm to return to schools. Here are the bus pickup locations:

Amityville High School

Copiague Middle School

Howitt Middle School (Farmingdale)

Huntington High School

Walt Whitman High School (South Huntington)

 

Class Offerings

Aircraft and Rocket Design	Embark on a journey through the skies and beyond with our Aircraft and Rocket Design STEM class! We will explore the principles of flight, aerodynamics, and propulsion. From building model airplanes to crafting miniature rockets, students will engage in hands-on activities to ignite their passion for aerospace engineering.
Ecology	Join us and step into the natural world to discover its wonders! We’ll dive into the interconnected web of life as we explore ecosystems, biodiversity, and environmental conservation. With immersive field trips, hands-on experiments, and interactive discussions, students will uncover the secrets of the world around them.
Electrical Engineering	Plug into the world of innovation with our Electrical Engineering class! We will look into circuits, electronics, and power systems and work on problem-solving skills. Hands on labs, circuit challenges, and real-world applications - students will learn about the devices that power our modern world.
Emergency Medicine	Do you ever feel like you should be better prepared for medical emergencies? Then join us for this fast-paced world of medical response, trauma care, and critical decision-making. Through simulated emergency scenarios, hands-on training in basic life support techniques, and guest lectures from experienced healthcare professionals, students will learn the essential skills needed to thrive in high-pressure situations.

 

If you are interested, but not already enrolled in the STEP Program, please note you must first be accepted into the STEP program by filling out our program application. Once enrolled in STEP, you can register for the Saturday Academies by filling out our Academies registration form.
