The Department of English & Humanities offers a broad range of courses that fulfill the academically rigorous and comprehensive General Education requirements that are required for graduation. Areas of study include Fiction, Poetry, Film, Theatre, Journalism, Philosophy, Public Speaking, and Interdisciplinary Humanities.
The courses offered by Farmingdale State College’s Department of English & Humanities are broad and diverse, but at the heart of all of them is Farmingdale State College’s motto, “Let Each Become All One is Capable of Being.” In our courses, students will learn and develop critical thinking, close reading, professional-quality writing, and confident public speaking. Just as importantly, our courses help students to contemplate the human condition so that Farmingdale’s graduates are not only just skilled at their trade but are also prepared to participate as engaged citizens in their local, national, and global communities.
In addition to our wide range of courses, the Department of English & Humanities offers the following exciting opportunities:
- The English Minor
- Microcredentials:
- The Dale, Farmingdale State College’s student-run newspaper
- The Semi-Annual “Change My Mind” Public Speaking Competition
- Student Awards:
