Aeronautical Science Professional Pilot Admissions Requirements

The Professional Pilot degree provides training for entry-level pilot jobs within the air transportation industry. Opportunities exist in Federal/State Government, Corporate/Business Aviation sectors, and the United States Military.

The Pro-Pilot Program prepares students to earn the following Certificates and Ratings:

  • Private Pilot Certificate
  • Instrument Rating
  • Commercial Pilot Certificate
  • Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) Certificate or CMEL

In addition, the student will have the option to complete the following Certificates and Ratings

  • Multi Engine Land
  • Multi Engine Instructor
  • Certified Flight Instructor Instrument CFll Certificate

Important Information to Consider

  • Flight Fees are an additional $9,000 per semester.
  • Flight Blocks (two options): Monday, Wednesday, Friday Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday
  • Year-round flight opportunities
  • Our agreement with the FAA enables our graduates to qualify for a R-ATP at 1,000 hours compared to 1,500 hours. 
  • A medical exam administered by an FAA Aviation Medical Examiner is required prior to flight training.
    • Students pursuing flight as a career are strongly advised to obtain a 1st class medical certificate.
  • Students can complete a dual degree in Aviation Administration and Professional Pilot.
  • Students with credentials above a private pilot license are not considered for admission.

Admissions to the Professional Pilot Program

  • Highly Selective
  • Application Deadline: January 15
  • Document Deadline: February 1
  • Fall Only Program

Freshman

  • Algebra II regents exam 70% or higher
  • Minimum High School GPA of 90
  • Minimum SAT of 1100 (EBRW/Math) or 22 ACT Composite
  • Pre-Calculus and Physics required

Transfer Students

  • Minimum Cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • College Algebra required
  • College Pre-Calculus and Physics recommended

Current Student Curriculum Change 
Spring Semester Only

  • Must meet all transfer requirements

Incoming Freshman applicants can choose to apply using the SUNY Application or the Common Application.

If you are applying to only SUNY schools, utilize the SUNY Application for all of your applications. If you are applying to both public and private schools, using the Common Application is recommended.
