Farmingdale State College Community Service Awards
The Farmingdale State College (FSC) Community Service Awards, administered by the Nexus Center Office of Community & Civic Engagement, celebrate students, faculty, staff, and student organizations for their exceptional commitment to community service. These awards will be presented during the FSC Day of Service Ceremony on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at 9:30 AM in the Campus Center Ballroom.
Nomination Deadline
Nominations must be submitted by March 3, 2025, at 11:59 PM. Self-nominations are accepted.
Award Timeframe
The nomination window opens February 3, 2025 until March 3, 2025. Nominations are reviewed by the FSC Carnegie Community Engagement (Student Engagement Sub-Committee), and winners will be contacted early spring.
Who Can Apply/Award Categories:
Awards will be considered in the following categories:
Monetary Individual Awards:
- Students - Awards are available for four FSC students, with the expectation to award one student from each school, based on the student’s commitment to community-engaged public service. The award amount is anticipated to be $1,000.
Non-monetary Individual Awards:
- Faculty
- Staff
Non-monetary Group Awards for:
- Departments or groups of faculty/staff
- Officially recognized student organization
Criteria and Nomination Guidelines
Nominations must highlight how the nominee's ongoing community service embodies the characteristics outlined below. Community Service Award winners are dedicated and effective agents for positive change who:
- Volunteer on campus or with local community organizations.
- Inspire others to engage in service.
- Demonstrate initiative, leadership, and commitment.
- May have established a non-profit organization or charity.
Nominees should exhibit a clear and sustained commitment to serving the on- and/or off-campus community. Please provide detailed examples illustrating how the nominee fulfills each of the following criteria:
- Leadership: Demonstrates significant contributions to fostering unity and purpose within their community. Provide specific examples of their leadership efforts and impact.
- Social Responsibility: Actively improves their community by participating in or leading volunteer programs, social groups, outreach efforts, sports programs, or other initiatives. Detail the programs and outcomes influenced by the nominee.
- Mentorship: Exhibits positive values and behaviors that inspire others. Share examples of how the nominee has mentored individuals, groups, or organizations in a meaningful and impactful way.
- Change Agent: Stimulates or influences others to create positive change within the Farmingdale State College community and beyond. Provide examples of the nominee's role in driving change and its measurable results.
Award Requirements
- A Bio/Statement about the nominee’s contribution;
- A letter of recommendation is encouraged but not required.
- Requests of letters of recommendations may be requested for self-nominations after submission
Award and Recognition
Winners will be publicly recognized during the Day of Service Ceremony on April 22, 2025.
