FSC Welcomes New Engineering Technology Dean

Kenneth Lee to Lead School of Engineering Technology

After a comprehensive national search, Farmingdale State College (FSC) Senior Vice President and Provost Laura Joseph, EdD, today announced the appointment of Kenneth Lee, PhD, as the new dean of Farmingdale State College’s School of Engineering Technology. The appointment will be effective August 5, 2024.

Lee is an accomplished administrator who has previously served as dean of the Lance College of Mines and Engineering at Montana Technological University and as professor and founding chair of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Western New England University. He has held academic positions at both University of Massachusetts Lowell and Rutgers University and, after earning his PhD at the University of California at Irvine, was also a postdoctoral research associate at Princeton University.

During his tenure as dean, he oversaw 10 academic departments and 13 programs, including computer science and networking/cybersecurity. His focus on student success and retention has led to curriculum enhancements and improved enrollment. A dedicated ABET program evaluator and proven leader of program accreditations, Lee will guide the School of Engineering Technology through its upcoming reaccreditation cycle and beyond.

“Dr. Lee’s leadership style is welcoming and one that values transparency and supports diversity, equity, and inclusion,” said Joseph. "His focus on enriching the educational experience for students will further strengthen Farmingdale State College’s hallmark School of Engineering Technology.”

Lee succeeds Barbara L. Christe, PhD, who has served as dean of the School of Engineering Technology since 2018. Christe was FSC's first female dean, and greatly advanced the school with her focus on new and revised curricula, significant facilities and technology improvements, and much improved external funding.

“I want to share my tremendous appreciation to all the members of the search committee for their leadership and dedication through the selection process,” said Joseph. “Please join me in congratulating Dr. Ken Lee on his appointment and in welcoming him to the FSC community as dean of the School of Engineering Technology.”
