Dr. Geraldo "Gerry" Vasquez is an Assistant Professor of Accounting (Tenure granted effective 09/01/2025) in the Department of Business Management of the School of Business. He previously taught at the City University of New York. Dr. Vasquez teaches Financial (BUS 101) and Managerial (BUS 102) Accounting, Business Statistics (BUS 240), Accounting Data Analytics (BUS 390) and Auditing (BUS 471).

He is also an advisor to the Accounting Club and Business Society; the Chair of the Strategic Planning Committee of the School of Business; and a recipient of the 2024 President's C.A.R.E.S. Award. 


Dr. Vasquez' research areas of interest include auditing (e.g., going concern opinion, auditor behavior and financial relationships), technology (e.g., blockchain, digital assets, AI and RPA) and student experience (e.g., engagement and experiential learning). Dr. Vasquez' research on IT audits (with Bruce Nearon) was featured in The Trusted Professional on November 14, 2019 (https://tinyurl.com/4up54eef). 

His research on the going concern opinion, blockchain technology and the technological skills gap of accounting graduates are published in academic and professional journals. 
Dr. Vasquez has also developed a T.E.C.H. framework that provides guidance to educators on how to embed technology into the accounting curriculum (forthcoming) and a redesigned accounting curriculum that provides accounting graduates with the technological skills demanded by the profession (in progress).


Dr. Vasquez is a former member of the Auditing Standards, Digital Assets, and Future of Accounting Education Committees of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants. He is also the former Founding Chair of the Board of Trustees of Emblaze Academy Charter School, Inc. (a hybrid middle school start-up).

He is a member of the Editorial Review Board of the Journal of Global Business Insights, a member of the Scientific and Paper Review Committee of the Global Conference on Education and Research (GLOCER) and a peer reviewer for The CPA Journal.

Prior to entering academia, Dr. Vasquez served in various positions in the private and public sectors. He has considerable financial and administrative management, technology project management and auditing experience. Dr. Vasquez served as the Chief Financial Officer of Sustainable South Bronx, Inc., the Founding Director of Finance and Administration of the
City University of New York-Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism (a higher education start-up) and a Senior Auditor for the Office of the New York State Comptroller in the public sector. In the private sector, Dr. Vasquez was responsible for accounting, budgeting, finance, real estate and technology project management functions as a Vice President of Merrill Lynch and Co., Inc.


He is also the Founder and Managing Principal of Community Tax Advisors (a tax practice); the Founder of Engagication (an edtech start-up); and the Founder of PalanteCapital (a fintech start-up).

Dr. Vasquez is proficient in remote learning technologies and learning management systems such as Blackboard Collaborate; Kaltura Video; Panopto Capture; WebEx; Zoom; Google Meet; Microsoft Teams; Blackboard; Brightspace; Connect; My Accounting Lab; Wiley Plus and Web Assign.

He holds a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) from the Fox School of Business and Management (AACSB accredited) of Temple University. He also holds a M.Sc. and B.A. cum laude in Accounting from the City University of New York-Queens College. Dr. Vasquez is a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society.

Awards & Honors
