Eleanor Fapohunda Colloquium Series

Dr. Jeff Gaab, "Oktoberfest: Yesterday and Today."

A 200-plus years walk through the history of Munich's most famous festival, the Oktoberfest. Known as the “Largest Volksfest (Folks Fest)" in the world, Oktoberfest is tied closely with Bavaria's and Germany's turbulent history. We will examine the high and low points in Oktoberfest, from its inception in 1810 to the present, including pandemics, the world wars, terrorism, local culture and politics.

The School of Arts & Sciences Colloquium Series was established in 2004 by the late Dr. Eleanor Fapohunda, Dean of the School of Arts & Sciences, to enable our faculty to share their scholarly pursuits with their colleagues by giving presentations that are accessible, engaging, and interesting to faculty, staff, and students representing the wide range of academic backgrounds of our School.
