Rams on the RISE: Civic Leadership Program
Leadership Development Program
Rams on the RISE is a transformative leadership program created by Farmingdale State College’s Newman Civic Fellow, Jairo Orozco, who also serves as the President of the Student Government Association. Developed as Jairo’s Newman Civic Fellowship project, the program reflects his vision to empower students with leadership skills and a commitment to civic engagement.
The mission of Rams on the RISE is to enable students at Farmingdale State College to take ownership of their lives by fostering leadership principles and essential life skills. The program emphasizes character building, effective communication, self-awareness, emotional intelligence, problem-solving, and conflict management. These competencies are foundational for personal growth, civic participation, and creating positive change within their communities.
Through interactive workshops, peer mentoring, and real-world problem-solving opportunities, Rams on the RISE equips students with the tools they need to navigate complex challenges, both on campus and beyond. The program also promotes civic responsibility by encouraging participants to use their leadership skills to engage in meaningful service and advocacy.
As a student-led initiative, Rams on the RISE embodies the spirit of Farmingdale State College’s commitment to developing future leaders who are prepared to contribute to a more just and equitable society.
