Dream Big - Spring 2024 Reception

Farmingdale State College is delighted to announce the upcoming exhibition, "Dream Big," featuring the groundbreaking graphic design and photography of the acclaimed duo, McCandliss & Campbell. The exhibition will grace the walls of the Memorial Gallery from February 13 to April 12, 2024 on weekdays only, 9am to 4pm.

In coordination with the exhibit, a reception will be held on a (NEW UPDATED DATE: MARCH 5th) from 4:30 - 6:30 PM.

There will also be a lecture in campus ballroom B that will take place on March 5 from 11:00 AM - 12:00 NOON. All gallery exhibits and events are open to the public and the Farmingdale State College community.

Renowned for their expressive typography and conceptual photography, Trevett McCandliss and Nancy Campbell have made significant strides within the fashion world. The Memorial Gallery will host a curated selection of their award-winning work, showcasing their innovative approach to graphic design and photography. 

McCandliss & Campbell challenge conventional norms with their distinctive design work, always inspiring others to "Dream Big." The duo, both painters and visual artists, leverage their unique talents in addition to their art direction and design skills. Trevett McCandliss, who is also a fashion photographer, shoots many of their assignments. Both artists create all of the custom and hand-done typography that is a cornerstone of their signature style. 

The exhibition promises a visually-stimulating and thought-provoking experience, featuring a collection of work and concepts that push boundaries and capture the viewer's attention. "Dream Big" serves as a testament to McCandliss & Campbell's commitment to inspiring young designers and artists to explore the limitless possibilities within their own work. 

Their list of clients includes both fashion magazines and brands. The duo has garnered over 350 design and photography awards from prestigious institutions such as Graphis, The Society of Publication Designers, The Type Directors Club, Print, How, Communication Arts, and Creative Quarterly. In 2017, they received the German Design Award for Excellence in Communication Design, and recently achieved the esteemed title of Graphis Masters in both the design and photography categories. 

Nancy Campbell, a graduate of The School of Visual Arts with a BFA in graphic design, earned her AA degree from Farmingdale College before her studies at SVA. Prior to McCandliss & Campbell she worked as a designer at various magazines including Harper’s Bazaar, Mademoiselle, and YM. 

Trevett McCandliss, with a BFA in fine arts from Syracuse University, studied painting at the New York Studio School and graphic design and photography at The School of Visual Arts.
