Day of Service Toiletry Drive

Get ready to make a difference with the Nexus Center Office of Community and Civic Engagement.
This April, we're launching an exciting toiletry drive that will help those in need and spark some friendly competition between six different groups.

We're inviting the four schools, functional areas, and alumni to battle it out and see who can collect the most items. The winning group will be announced during the highly anticipated Inaugural Day of Service lecture and Q&A with the legendary George Takei.

But that's not all! The first 200 guests who generously bring an extra toiletry item to the Day of Service lecture presented by the Office of Student Engagement will receive a complimentary George Takei book. How cool is that?

The fun doesn't stop there. We want to celebrate our collective efforts by gathering up to 250 people wearing Day of Service T-shirts, which will be provided on April 20 after the lecture. We'll capture this important day with a group photo to commemorate the inaugural event.

On April 20, we will celebrate the end of a three-week-long Toiletry Drive at FSC's Day of Service event. Items collected will be divided between five local agencies and the FSC Food Pantry.

How can you participate?

From April 3-20, we will be holding a contest for which school or division can collect the most toiletry items. You can participate by donating items and placing them in the bins for your area. The winner will be announced on April 20.

Collection bins will be available from April 3-19. Each location is for a specific group, as noted below: 

• The School of Engineering Technology - Lupton Lobby
• The School of Business - School of Business Lobby 
• The School of Health Sciences - Gleeson Lobby
• The School of Arts & Sciences - Hale Lobby
• Alumni - Alumni Office
• Staff in the functional areas (non-academic departments) - Greenley Lobby and Horton Lobby

On April 20 you can also bring your items straight to the day of service event in the lobby of the campus center.

What will you get?

The first 200 people to come to the day of service photo opportunity will receive a Day of Service T-shirt (to be worn for the group photo) and will participate in our first inaugural group photo.

In addition, people who donate a toiletry item on 4/20 will receive a copy of George Takei's book - while supplies last.

What kind of toiletry items can I donate?

Toiletries can include items such as shampoo, conditioner, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, dental floss, razors, feminine hygiene products, deodorant, q-tips, etc.
