Islamic Women's Fashion & Beauty Ideals In America
Women's Heritage Discovery Workshop Discussion
Women play a central role in providing and maintaining the cultural and religious practices in America. More specifically, women’s ethnic and religious attire often place them in a key position of navigating new cultural expectations while upholding traditions. Fashion is used as a form of identification and has the potential to add to the cultural diversity in American society. In recent years, Islamic fashion and modest dressing styles have become part of mainstream U.S. markets. Through an intersectionality lens, we will discuss how Islamic fashion has become a maker for inclusive beauty in American society.
We invite all members of the Farmingdale State College Community to participate.
