The Department of Visual Communication has a passion for effective communication that is relevant, authentic, and creative. As technology advances, our society continues to crave information in an expressive and innovative way. Visual communication is a powerful tool and offers an engaging way to present information.
Since industries are developing their communications to become increasingly more visual, our programs provide students with the skills that transcend the traditional delivery platforms and focus on new emerging technologies essential to web, mobile, and social media.
Our new degree, the Interaction Design (IXD) baccalaureate degree, focuses on human behavior and user experience in the design and development of technology applications and products.
Our Art & Graphic Design baccalaureate degree program has a long history and well-established reputation for preparing graduates for successful careers in graphic design for digital and print applications.
Farmingdale State College is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD).
Outside of the Classroom
The Department of Visual Communication offers a variety of opportunities for students to get involved outside the classroom. They can join the Design Club or the student chapter of the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA) or participate in the Best of SUNY Art Student Competition. In their senior year, students exhibit their work at the Memorial Gallery in the Design Expo for a chance to show their work in the Best of Show.
