I am currently a second-year student at Farmingdale State College studying Liberal
Arts and Sciences with the hopes of pursuing a Computer Science degree. As the oldest
of four, I am the first member of my family to go to college. I was raised by immigrant
parents who came to the United States from Nicaragua for a better life. My plans after
high school did not include college at first, but I was motivated by my parents to
research and apply. My family isn’t perfect, but I am grateful to have been fortunate
enough to have the upbringing I had.
Why ACE?
When I heard about the ACE program, I loved the idea of having extra support on campus
and having people in my corner. ACE gave me the chance to meet new people and learn
new skills through academic workshops. The workshops have also helped me to enhance
my academic performance. I’ve learned about so many different campus resources like
the tutoring center, math center, and writing center. I am motivated to give all I
can to my schoolwork so I can accomplish ACE’s mission and graduate on time.
As a young boy, I remember getting my first gaming system, the Nintendo 3DS. My very
first game was Super Mario Bros, and my love of gaming had started. I hope to earn
a bachelor's degree in Computer Science as well as secure a career in the video gaming
industry, specifically software development.
