Dr. Chunhui Yu by Dawood Zain (达吴森)
In this interview I interviewed Prof. Chunhui Yu. He is from Henan Province, Mainland China and came to the United States to study math and attain his PHD. He still celebrates holidays and traditions from China here in the United States. For instance, the main holiday he celebrates is the Lunar New Year. He also celebrates the Autumn Festival also known as the Mooncake Festival. Him and his family celebrate Dragon Boat Festival and eat a special kind of rice dumpling called "zongzi" on this day. The one dish from his culture he believes everyone should try is leek and egg dumplings and/or fish dumplings. When asked if he ever faced any struggles being an Asian American here, Dr. Yu said that he did not face much struggle and was not directly effected by anything but was worried about the Asian hate he was seeing on the news lately. He is worried for his kids and doesn't want them to deal with that.
The professional goal that Dr. Yu has for himself is to better himself and be more involved with students. His proudest accomplishment he has is having a good family with him. The advice Dr. Yu has for any first-generation Asian Americans who are struggling with their identity is to have an open mind about things and to be proud of yourself and who you are.
