Dr. Wi By Thi Lam (小花)
Prof Wi from PCM has been here for over 10 years and she's proud of her accomplishments in her life now. Compared to 10 years when her family and she had just come to America, everything was so difficult and they struggled a lot with the culture and language. Just like other immigrant families, they had the American dream and they were so happy to finally make it happen. In the future, she hopes to see the Asian community will be stronger and be treated the same as other races. She personally made a lot of changes in her life and her. For instance, she is able to raise her opinions in the meetings with other professors. When she first started her job, she was shy and barely spoke up and worked with mostly white-dominant professors that used to intimidate her since they seemed not to listen to her opinion. Other than identifying herself as Chinese, she doesn't have any different identity. Her favorite cultural tradition is Lunar New Year and she hopes this occasion will be known more and become an official holiday. She loves it because it's the best occasion for family reunions and it always reminds us of being Asian as a blessing.
